    Opening concert 2016

The unusual combination of classical music and dance in this year's opening concert enters uncharted artistic territory. The Junge Deutsche Philharmonie will play Richard Wagner's overture to «Tristan and Isolde», Alban Berg's «Lulu-Suite» and the violin concerto «Still» by Rebecca Saunders, one of the most exciting works in recent music history premiered to great acclaim in 2011. Saunders' composition will have its second premiere, having been expanded to provide the basis for a choreography by Sasha Waltz & Guests. Here music and dance melt inseparably. The evening's soloists are violin virtuoso Carolin Widmann and celebrated soprano Ana Durlovski. Sylvain Cambreling will be back in Weimar after a break of more than ten years to conduct the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie. Founded in 1974, the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie has given rise to great orchestra musicians and to many renowned ensembles.
