La Veronal (E)

    Siena

The artists' collective La Veronal around Spanish director Marcos Morau specializes in transforming geographical regions, cities and their history into dance performances that reflect their respective culture. «Siena» takes us on a journey of discovery to Italian art from the Renaissance to today: a woman sits alone in a museum observed by a man. The paintings on the walls start to glow, the room fills up with dancers in fencing gear intertwining and disentangling. From the speakers we hear opera arias, Italian pop songs and Hitchcock music.
The cultural history of Siena – with which Weimar is twinned – provides the ensemble with inspiration for a bizarre and shimmering collage about our perception of the human body and our altered treatment of it. Marcos Morau asks: «Where is the body now? What does humanism look like today?»
