    GOETHE :: DISAPPEARANCES

    A scenic installation for one person at a time

    Two years after arriving in Weimar, Goethe secretly left again. Where to? With what hope? And why travel under a false name and pretend to visit his sister? Prior to setting out that November, Goethe had learned of his sister Cornelia's death that summer. He was benumbed, shaken by her death. He had not written to his beloved sister for two years, even though she desperately yearned for it.
    Bernhard Mikeska, Lothar Kittstein and Alexandra Althoff's production for the historical Schießhaus, in the construction of which Goethe was involved, re-adjusts the seeing habits and the relations between members of the audience and actors.
    Each visitor enters alone, coming very close to the actors and becoming part of Goethe's story. Does a clear borderline exist between reality and dream, between the viewer and the viewed?
