This year’s Pentecost was all about preparing for an extraordinary project at the Kunstfest. Japanese sound artist Masamitsu Araki spent five days in Weimar and Apolda laying the groundwork for the European premiere of → »Soundtrack for Midnight TAMURO« on 21 and 22 August.

»Tamuro« means »hanging out together« in Japanese – and these informal social spaces were precisely what Araki sought out on his journey. One of the highlights was visiting a Simson repair shop in Schweina, where young people tinker with their mopeds and the shared experience of working on them becomes a village gathering place. Another special moment was the meeting with members of the Thuringian tuning scene, who were recruited for the project via an open call. Together with Araki, they are now preparing for the local adaptation, in which their modified cars will themselves become mobile sound bodies in August, performing on the Festwiese in Apolda as part of an extraordinary »motorized orchestra«.
