The dance project And when we change ... by the internationally acclaimed South African choreographer Robyn Orlin reflects on the relationship between humans and nature. Things cannot remain the same after the pandemic as they were before, but who dares to set change in motion? And what comes after that? The project draws on the writings of the great poets from Weimar Classicism via Nietzsche to the Bauhaus thinkers. It then bridges the gap to today’s pressing environmental issues, such as global warming and forest dieback.
Robyn Orlin and around 20 students from the dance faculty at Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts (HfMDK) will develop a course consisting of smaller choreographed solos, duos, trios, with acoustic or musical accompaniment.
The project has been conceptualised as an open-air event in two different parks: the Park an der Ilm in Weimar and the egapark in Erfurt, as part of the Bundesgartenschau (BUGA).
The sequences will be repeated by the dancers at regular intervals over a period of two hours. This gives the audience the opportunity to find their way and explore the entire park area. It’s not until the grand finale that the dancers and spectators come together.
