Social upheavals in recent years have led numerous artists from diverse backgrounds to Europe and to Germany. This positive development – despite the terrible context – has resulted in new unforeseen collaborations in theatre, film, literature, and in sharing their views on contemporary life in Europe.
In «Generating Gathering», five multidisciplinary artists from Syria and Palestine engage in dialogue with one another, with fellow artists from Thuringia, others with refugee experience, and audiences at the Kunstfest in workshops, interventions and public discussions. The participants – playwrights, stage directors, painters, dramaturges, dancers and choreographers – question whether their identity as «crisis artists» is more complex that generally assumed. The artists plan to creatively accompany the festival programme and critically discuss what they see. In so doing, they hope to generate a gathering of common experience that will continue long after their presentation has concluded.
