Künstlerinnengruppe Erfurt: Komik – komisch

The Super 8 film »Komik – komisch« (1988, 29:04 min) counters social norms and role models with unconventional movements, experimental costumes, and a dense film collage. Humor becomes a form of resistance by unsettling viewers, subverting expectations, and revealing alternative forms of physicality and community.

Gabriele Stötzer (camera & editing) discusses the film’s creation as well as the work of the Erfurt artist group amid the tensions of repression, subculture, and artistic self-assertion in the GDR. At the same time, the evening opens a dialogue on how strategies of resistance and solidarity can be carried forward in contemporary artistic contexts.

The discussion is hosted at the Eigenheim gallery as part of the exhibition → Humor als Waffe (Humor as a Weapon).
