The Goethe Medal is the most prestigious award in Germany’s foreign cultural and educational policy. It brings attention to forward-looking themes and trends and strengthens the internationalization of the German cultural landscape, global networking, and mutually beneficial cooperation. Traditionally awarded on Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s birthday, Goethe-Institut honors individuals who have rendered outstanding service in their home countries to the promotion of the German language and international cultural exchange. This year’s laureates are literary translator Anita Raja, composer Arvo Pärt, and theater maker Prodromos Tsinikoris, whose works can also be experienced at Kunstfest Weimar.
