Leïla Ka: Maldonne

Celebrated choreographer Leïla Ka embodies a new generation of dance

»Maldonne« is a powerful dance piece that explores sisterhood, turmoil, and the diverse identities that coexist within femininity. At times light as a feather and playful, at others constrained or deeply sad, the five dancers grapple with forty secondhand dresses, each carrying its own story. Expressive, angry gestures give way to delicate, soft movements and moments of vulnerability. One moment they perform passionately to music by Leonard Cohen or French chanson; the next, the music falls silent and the dancers’ breath sets the beat. Leïla Ka’s theatrical, combative, and precise movement language defies imposed role models and gets under the skin. With urban and contemporary influences, she has become the rising star of the French dance scene and choreographed for Beyoncé and the National Ballet of Chile, among others.

»Maldonne« is part of the dance programme. Together with → »Izithukuthuku« , this event is available as part of a → Kombi-Ticket
