»Pas Moi« explores the origins of the first technical devices for recording, transmitting and reproducing sound from a Deaf perspective. Many of these technologies were also developed with an audist agenda: Deafness was viewed as an illness that needed to be »cured«—rather than recognised as a cultural identity. With a critical and witty touch, Diana Anselmo and co-performers shed light on the history that remains inscribed in these technological achievements and counter the normative notions of the hearing world with phantasies of their own. What if we start from a point way beyond »deficiency« to re-imagine history, identity and progress?
