»AUSGERECHNET WOLKENKRATZER«

Audimax der Bauhaus Universität Weimar

Harold Lloyd in his most famous hair- raising comedy in which a young man scaling the outside of a skyscraper symbolises the American dream.

Harold moves from the sticks to the big city in search of his fortune, while Mil dred, the sweetheart he leaves behind, has high hopes of his success. This fails to materialise, however, even though Harold boasts of his triumphs in letters home. In fact, he only has a lowly job in a department store. Then Mildred comes to the big city on a surprise visit. This leads to all manner of twists and turns,
in which Harold uses all his ingenuity to persuade Mildred of his success. Eventually he has a glorious idea that is bound to make him a fortune: his flatmate and friend Bill, an experienced climber, can climb up the outside of a skyscraper for advertising purpos- es. But a policeman prevents Bill from doing this and Harold is left to undertake the climb himself, for better or worse.

The tension is captured by the congenial live music of the legendary silent movie musician Robert Israel, who will conduct his own music in person, performed by members of the Thüringen Philharmonie Gotha-Eisenach.

The supporting film will be ‘The Voice of the Nightingale’ by the Polish-Russian trick film pioneer Władysław Starewicz. The ensemble music to accompany this jewel, performed here for the first time, was composed by the Weimar silent film musician Richard Siedhoff in 2024.
