14-day Cabaret review of necessary and unnecessary forms of expression – by and with Schorsch Kamerun and other professionals
What purpose does which type of art, media and education serve? What do we “need”? What must we champion? What can we abolish or leave up to the play of “free market forces”? Who defines what education is and what socalled “educational curricula” are? Where does democracy end and infantilisation begin? How can parallel societies be brought back into a space where they can talk to each other? Do we still want free-to-air, collectively subsidised broadcasting, multiculturalism, decolonisation, gender-equitable language, Dadaism, diversity, “expressive dances”, open gender classification and a prominently visible, artistic culture of remembrance? On 14 evenings, spread across two weeks, Schorsch Kamerun and his team will perform live at the Kunstfest Pavilion in the Theaterplatz – and simultaneously broadcast on radio – as part of Kunstfest Weimar 2024. Every night starts at 6 pm with a newly-composed Weimar song about their impressions from the day before. After this, aspects of the project’s themes will be raised and specific examples will either be examined or performed together with protagonists and experts who specialise in the genre. Possibly for the last time? The respective art forms and forms of expression will be questioned and reviewed live in a “citizen’s vote” in order to finally work out what is still “relevant” to society and and what can be immediately “abolished”. In an environment of partly divided – at least highly charged – political opinions, Schorsch Kamerun and his companions want to discover “who still wants to listen to whom here” or maybe soon doesn’t any more. Before we keel over.
On August 31st, one day before the Thuringian election, ‘Bevor wir kippen’ will be switching to DNT, Großes Haus for the exclusive election remembrance gala ‘Comes as you are’ with the actress Sandra Hüller, the comedian René Marik and other top guests. More Info and Tickets here.
