CORONA IN BUCHENWALD

In April 2020, on the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Buchenwald concentration camp, twelve survivors and their companions come to Weimar. The planned ceremony is cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, but the elderly gentlemen still want to commemorate the day at all costs. However, one of them tests positive for coronavirus and everyone present is forced to quarantine with immediate effect. The Serbian writer Sascha, who travelled here with his son, suggests telling one another stories to pass the time, just like in Boccaccio’s Decameron. As a result, they spend the next twelve evenings each telling the others about something that is important to them — including Ovid’s exile to the Black Sea, a career as a boxer in a concentration camp, and Corona Schröter, Goethe’s lover. Buchenwald survivor and writer Ivan Ivanji will read from his new book, Corona in Buchenwald.
