Set in the space between nightmare and factual inevitability, Dimanche (Sunday) portrays a humanity ill-equipped to deal with the consequences of its own actions. We observe a family at home, going about their Sunday routine. Then suddenly the walls start shaking, gale-force wind and torrential rain almost make the house cave in, however the family’s behaviour does not change. A second storyline follows three wildlife journalists trying their best to capture images of the ecological apocalypse. In an old diesel vehicle, they travel to the melting Arctic looking for the last surviving wild animals, an old polar bear and her cub on a drifting ice floe ...
Pointed and visually powerful, the performance shows up people’s absurd resilience and stubbornness, refusing to change their lives even when facing the existential danger of ecological collapse.
The performance — which works without the use of words — hovers aesthetically between object theatre, pantomime, stage play and video performance. The range of virtuoso techniques all contribute to advancing the story and its substantial consequences for the characters. KUNSTFEST presents the German premiere of this family production, recommended for children from age 10.
