Hörkunst-Station am Kunstfest-Pavillon

KUNSTFEST-Pavilion at the Theaterplatz

Retrospective of the collaborations between Kunstfest Weimar and Deutschlandfunk Kultur since 2019

This year’s Kunstfest Weimar presents radio plays produced since 2019 by Deutschlandfunk Kultur in co-operation with Radio Lotte as part of a retrospective at the “Hörkunst-Station”.
Anyone in search of a short, free artistic experience should head for the Kunstfest Pavilion. Pay a small deposit to borrow a pair of headphones and enjoy one of the numerous radio plays produced by Rolf C. Hemke, Artist Director of Kunstfest Weimar.

IM TIEFEN, QUEEREN WALD

2020 / Mara May / Mich Kranixfeld
Mara May and Micha Kranixfeld’s radio play explores an imagined queer landscape in the Thuringian Forest in which documentary and fictitious voices engage with one another and
create a multilayered soundscape at a place where retreat, utopia and the breaking open of urban norms meet.

GANG NACH BUCHENWALD

2020 / Christoph Korn
A powerful audio walk unfolds along the historical route to Buchenwald that Christoph Korn designed as a radio play – an acoustic space of remembrance that combines the survivors’ voices, literature and music.

HACKS UND SEINE ECKERMÄNNER

2021 / Jan Decker
Jan Decker’s audio installation about the “prince of poets” Peter Hacks examines the construct of literary greatness and authorship – a multilayered audio play incorporating the cult of genius, self-enactment and a critical look at the present.

UND ALLE TIERE RUFEN: DIESER TITEL RETTET DIE WELT AUCH NICHT MEHR

2021 / Marie Bues / Thomas Köck / Anouschka Trocker
Thomas Köck’s many-voiced requiem manifesto, a live radio play directed by Marie Bues and Anouschka Trocker, gives extinct animals a voice and takes a powerful look at the extinction of species, colonial responsibility and a future without humans.

ANIMATE

2022 / Chris Salter / Kate Story
“Animate” is both a radio play and a performance that uses immersive technology to create a sensory journey through a world that is transforming on account of climate change and in which international artists speak about the vital power of landscapes and how deeply intertwined humans and nature are.

WERWOLFKOMMANDOS – DER DISKURS

2022 / Marie Schwesinger
Marie Schwesinger and her team use their “Werwolfkommandos” (Werewolf Commandos) to combine authentic court proceedings with scenic readings and conversations about the continuities inherent in right-wing violence and how society processes them.

UBU

2023 / Robert Wilson
Following its world premiere, Robert Wilson’s “Ubu”, inspired by Alfred Jarry’s farce “King Ubu” and Joan Miró’s stage characters, returns as a radio play, combining sound art, theatre and visual remembrance to form a multilayered reflection on the misuse of power, war and the absurdity of totalitarian regimes.

MONOLOG / DIALOG

2023 / Juan Allende-Blin
A musical and radiophonic collage based on texts by Jorge Semprún and Samuel Beckett, honouring the victims and survivors of the Buchenwald concentration camp.

DIE VIELEN STIMMEN MEINES BRUDERS

2023 / Marie Bues / Anouschka Trocker / Magdalena Schrefel / Valentin Schuster
Magdalena Schrefel’s radio play “Die vielen Stimmen meines Bruders” (My Brother’s Many Voices) examines the polyphony of a sibling relationship that moves between personal longings, linguistic
role-switching and the wish for empowerment.

BEVOR WIR KIPPEN

2024 / Schorsch Kamerun
Schorsch Kamerun’s “Bevor wir kippen” (Before We Fall Over) creates a radical, participatory and highly topical auditive resonance chamber about the future of art, education and public discourse that incorporates Weimar songs, performative interventions and controversial debates.
