»MUTTER UND KIND«
This remarkable film was shot 100 years ago by the Saale in Thuringen, near Rudolstadt and Preilipp. The family of Senator Hansen from Bremen is unable to fulfil its wish to have children. In order to secure an inheritance, a contract is made with a cook and coachman: they receive money to get married and buy a farm, for which they will hand over their first born to the Hansen family. But once the child is born, the mother cannot find it in her heart... The film could only be reconstructed in 1999, using a copy found in Moscow with Georgian title cards.
»THE KID«
The tramp accidentally comes across a found- ling child and brings him up in his attic. The two become an inseparable team: once young John has broken all the windows in a neighbourhood, glazier Charlie comes along to repair them for good money. But the state orphanage soon takes an interest and tries to take the kid away from his foster father. The result is one of the most heart-rending tragicomedies in film history. The pianist and composer Maud Nelissen will accompany the film live on the piano with her own arrangement of the film score Chaplin composed in 1971.1
