‘Duo Seraphim’ is the title of a contemporary, five- movement cantata by the acclaimed Catalan compos- er, organist, musicologist and teacher Bernat Vivancos i Farràs (born in Barcelona in 1973). He wrote the work, which received its world premiere in 2020, for two so- pranos and a seven-piece Baroque ensemble of two cornett, four violae da gamba and organ. Italian consort music of the 16th and 17th centuries by Marco Antonio Ferro, Girolamo Frescobaldi, Giovanni Battista Buon- amente and Giovanni Maria Trabaci will contextualise Vivanco’s work and reference some of his musical models. The evening's two soloists can confidently be called stars of the early music scene: Austrian soprano Miriam Feuersinger won the Opus Klassik last year as a soloist for her Bach cantatas. She specializes in religious music from the Baroque to the late Romantic periods and has worked together with the most distinguished con- ductors ranging from Jordi Savall to Tom Koopman and ensembles including the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, La Cetra, and the Capricornus Consort Basel. The Catalan soprano Nuria Rial, who has attracted considerable praise for her fine, clear voice, expressive musicality and softly resonant timbre, has worked with conductors such as Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Thomas Hengelbrock, Teodor Currentzis and René Jacobs and ensembles in- cluding Concerto Köln, The English Concert, Les Mu- siciens du Louvre and Il Giardino armonico. She is also a regular guest performer at major opera houses from Berlin to Brussels and Madrid. They are accompanied by the no less celebrated instrumental ensemble Les Cornets Noirs from Basel.Founded in 1997 by Frithjof Smith and Gebhard David, the ensemble specialises in Italian and German early ba- roque music from the middle of the sixteenth to the late seventeenth century north and south of the alps.
