To coincide with the musical intervention ‘Come as you are’ with Sandra Hüller, ARTE and Kunstfest Weimar will screen the film ‘Requiem’ from 2006. Even in her screen debut, Hüller’s exceptional acting talent is clear. For ‘Requiem’ she was awarded the Silver Bear for Best Actress at the Berlinale and the German Film Award 2006. ‘Requiem’ is set in the early 70s. The young Michaela Klingler (Sandra Hüller) leaves her strict Catholic home to go to university. She enjoys her initial steps towards a new freedom. But Michaela’s past catches up with her: she increasingly struggles with delusions, hearing voices and believing she is possessed by demons. Eventually Michaela enters the care of a young priest and agrees to an exorcism… With ‘Requiem’, director Hans-Christian Schmid (‘23’, ‘Crazy’, ‘After 5 in the Forest’) achieved a film of great emotional power. As in Schmid’s earlier thriller ‘23’, ‘Requiem’ is based on a true story.
