A film that feels like a gut punch. It focuses on nine-year-old Benni, a timid girl with impetuous energy and a seething anger she cannot control. Wild and unpredictable, Benni drives everyone else to despair. Foster families, residential groups, special schools – wherever Benni goes, she is moved on again almost immediately. Benni is what the youth department call a “system crasher”. Yet all Benni needs is one thing: love. With ‘System Crasher’, director Nora Fingerscheidt has produced an intense and emotional debut feature with a stunning acting ensemble, especially Helena Zengel, who lends a tender face to the unforgettable force of Benni’s expressive anger.
