In 1848 two wagon trains of emigrants set off from Kansas, in search of a better life 2,000 miles away in Oregon. But it was a long way, and an age was beginning of buffalo hunting, gold digging and raw power. Nevertheless, this was also a time of normal everyday life and love on the broad and lonely prairies. One of the truly great silent westerns, filled with emotion, drama and action, which was edited by Dorothy Arzner, an important director in her own right.
