WE THE VILLAGE

It is the utopia of a neighbourhood in the future: in the middle of the Wendland, an area of weak infrastructure, people are founding a village. It is intended to be a model village for the future of Europe – for hundreds of old people, hundreds of refugees and hundreds of young people. This is a giant social experiment which can become a prototype for European life in the countryside or could also end up as an ecological retirement community. Everything is possible.

In their long-term documentary, the film makers Antonia Traulsen and Claire Roggan address urgent contemporary issues and ask how we want to live together in future in a society that sees itself confronted with increases in the age of the population, immigration and rural depopulation. Can ambitious ideas about fairness and solidarity become lived experience through daily interactions in the »model village«? A neighbourhood »in progress« …
