VAP, Vusi Mdoyi & Phala Ookeditse Phala:
Izithukuthuku: The Tattered Soul of the Worker
A powerful reflection on generations of precarious labor
»Izithukuthuku« evokes the burden, resilience and endurance of working-class life through an exploration of a migrant worker’s spirit within the harsh pulse of a chaotic, crisis-ridden system. The captivating performance by a virtuoso ensemble of artists from Johannesburg is rooted in the rhythmic movement languages of isiPantsula, ndlamu, and setapa. Creating a percussive soundscape with typewriters, sewing machines, crates, and sounds of labor, the work becomes a powerful meditation on survival, dignity and resistance. In »Izithukuthuku«, indigenous and marginalized forms rise as a bold cross-generational language of memory and protest.
»Izithukuthuku« is part of the dance programme. Together with → »Maldonne« , this event is available as part of a → Kombi-Ticket
