Nach dem Ende geboren – Lesekreis

Book club featuring texts by the post-Reunification generation

In our reading group, we discuss texts by Paula von Fürstenberg (Niewiedervereinigung, 2026, Kiepenheuer und Witsch) and Johannes Nichelmann (Nachwendekinder: Die DDR, unsere Eltern und das große Schweigen, 2019, Ullstein-Verlage). Both authors were born in eastern Germany in the late 1980s and explore the unique position of their generation. Although the children of that era did not experience the GDR first-hand, they are confronted with issues relating to the GDR, its manifold effects and also gaps in their knowledge. There are (now) novels, plays and many non-fiction books about growing up and coming of age in the territory of the former GDR: over two sessions (22 August and 5 September, 11.00–12.00) we will be looking at two non-fiction books, both of which have shaped and continue to shape the discourse on the post-Reunification generation.

Anyone interested is warmly invited. Please register in advance.
