GEDÄCHTNIS-BUCHENWALD-KONZERT

Stadtkirche Sankt Peter und Paul (Herderkirche)

For the first time since the Nike Wagner era, a world-renowned orchestra is playing at the KUNSTFEST WEIMAR. A festival tradition from that time is also being revived to kick things off: the Gedächtnis-Buchenwald-Konzert (Buchenwald Memorial Concert)! This will involve the GUSTAV MAHLER JUGENDORCHESTER (GMJO), the youth orchestra founded by Claudio Abbado in Vienna in 1986, which is the leading institution when it comes to forging the next generation of musicians. Alongside prominent conductors and soloists, the GMJO regularly graces the stage at major concert halls and festivals the world over. In Weimar, the orchestra will make a stop for the first time since 2001 for two concerts between commitments at the SALZBURGER FESTSPIELE and the ELBPHILHARMONIE HAMBURG. A special programme is being developed for the concert dedicated to the ‘Buchenwald Memorial’ to mark the occasion, performed by GMJO chamber music ensembles.
