Taiwan is one of the main destinations for Vietnamese migrant workers. Around 185,000 people of Vietnam- ese origin also live in Germany. The two choreogra- phers Fang Yun Lo (Taiwan/Germany), Ngo Thanh Phuong (Vietnam) and the stage designer Cheng Ting Chen (Taiwan) investigated the dimensions of global labor migration and the intercultural realities of Vietnamese migrant workers. In a two-year research they conducted interviews with people of Vietnamese descent in Taiwan and Germany, mostly spontaneously at the workplace, in stores, snack bars or shops. The result is the stage play »Home away From home« - a touching, multi-voiced journey through the often invisible diasporic communities. The play raises questions about home, identity and happiness, but also about brokenness and structural violence. After performances in Taipei, Essen and Dresden, among others, »Home away From Home« will be shown for the first time in an adapted version in Weimar. In the walk-in installation with sound and video recordings, the audience has the opportunity to listen to the per- sonal stories of the performers Phạm Minh Đức and Vũ Phương Thảo. »Home away From Home« will be shown on the occasion of the awarding of the Goethe Medal to curator Yi-Wei Keng from Taiwan. He is one of the most important initiators of cultural exchange in Taiwan and is particularly committed to networking cultural practitioners, including in particular the German and Taiwanese theater scenes. The play is made possible in Weimar by the support of the Goethe-Institut and the Embassy of the Republic of Taiwan in Berlin.
