A participatory anti-war performance in Weimar 100 years after the first major Bauhaus exhibition of 1923
KRIEGSWEIHE is a European anti-war music per- formance that puts war, conflict and struggle at the center of the discussion. The war in Ukraine is now a terrifying reality that was unimaginable to many people in Europe 20 years after the end of the war in Yugoslavia. In search of a collective process and a contemporary form of remembrance, the project aims to create an emotional access and a common ground for the future with the help of music and performance.Together with artists from all over Europe as well as the audience and amateur musicians on site, a narrative for a peaceful Europe is searched for. Performatively and compositionally, the varied motif of warlike antagonism runs through all sub-projects: in the juxtaposition of two opposing parties, the motif of the duel is processed both playfully and musically. Through the technical expansion of the individual sub-projects - among other things through pressure chamber loudspeakers, which are traditionally used as alarm sirens or warning signals during air raids or other dangerous situations - additional antagonists come into play, revealing further dimensions of war. One hundred years after the Great Bauhaus Exhibition, Weimar once again becomes the site of a multiplicity of performances across a range of locations. Music as a form of coming to terms with trauma and overcom- ing conflict is at the center of the event and is more important today than ever before. KRIEGSWEIHE sees itself, similar to the Bauhaus, as a political project that celebrates the great peacemaking power of art through international participants.
