Is Weimar really a spruced-up cultural metropolis in miniature, without the noise and dirt of the big city? Or are things perhaps not all they seem behind the polished façade? Artist Paula Holzhauer, graduate of BAUHAUS UNIVERSITY WEIMAR, has researched four stories about
places linked to prostitution in Weimar’s past, from the 1930s to today. She sought personal interviews with contemporary witnesses, who were able to describe their impressions: from the pre-war years, from East Germany, and from the recent and even more recent past. She has combined the stories from four locations in Weimar, quoting them one after another in her text without attributing the words to specific people or interviewees. Find the places mentioned using the small map, and peek with your inner eye behind Weimar’s walls — with accompanying audio to guide you.
