Exclusion and participation, democracy and shutdown, war and annexation. The return of autocracy vs. forward-looking participation. Who has the say over whom, with what legitimacy and in what surroundings? The Group Extra Unruhig’s intervention »Nervös« seeks to test reactions to wanted and unwanted interference and which strategies might gain traction in the current balancing act with regard to consultation between authoritarian normalisation and open diversity.
In a collective occupation of the space on the Theaterplatz outside the Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar, they will ask basic artistic questions about involvement and empathy – in part as a response to exclusionary simplification in co-determination processes that are currently becoming ever more fragile as society becomes increasingly divided and opinion makers foment fear. Is thinking differently, being different and doing different things actually a guaranteed fundamental right for everyone? Which voice and which song depends on whom – and which might even be suspended? Can art ask questions with powerful effect that people would not otherwise dare ask: can it experiment freely, disrupt things, be random and unruly – in order to keep boundaries necessarily fluid?
The intervention » Nervös « by Group Extra Unruhig, which is made up of students at the Bauhaus University Weimar and the singer and theatre maker Schorsch Kamerun, will work in public spaces on content and formats that might represent alternatives to the noise made now (and in the past) by fear, panic and alarmism.
