For 50 years, the Moers Festival has stood for the latest trends in international improv and jazz music. In 2008, the improviser in residence programme was launched. International artists live in Moers for one year and realize projects, concerts and performances. With » Only with slightly different words « you can experience two such artists in residence: Tomeka Reid from the United States is currently a guest of the Moers Festival, Mariá Portugal from Brazil worked in the Lower Rhine in 2020. Together with the Italian Silvia Bolognesi on double bass and the German violinist Gunda Gottschalk, four of the most sought-after musicians in current improvisation and jazz music have joined forces to present themselves to the Thuringian audience for the first time, along with the Swiss-born video artist Selina Trepp.
Tomeka Reid has put together this formation exclusively for the KUNSTFEST WEIMAR. The artist studied classical cello and then turned to jazz and improvisation. She quickly advanced to become a sought-after session and studio musician known far beyond her hometown of Chicago. Like herself, all of the musicians in the project come from classical music backgrounds, switching to improvisation and jazz after years of musical development. The concert is the first cooperation between the JAZZMEILE THURINGIA, the KUNSTFEST WEIMAR and the Moers Festival.
