Mixed-able FORWARD DANCE COMPANY deconstructs Carmina Burana on Theaterplatz
To the sounds of Carl Orff’s ‘Carmina Burana’ – between the original and a deconstructed version – the audience are free to move around the Theaterplatz, changing the angle of their view of the the events.
The Leipzig-based Forward Dance Company creates new, unconventional and surprising perspectives out of the tensions between intuition and composition. The movements and actions of the dancers are not strictly set, instead they are created afresh in the moment. They make their decisions in real time, which allows their humanity to become visible. This impulsive practice, which is also reflected in the fragmentary, partially electronic music, demands openness, bravery and sensitivity. It can also serve as a model for a different form of co-existence in our society.
Due to its diversity in terms of physiques, ages and backgrounds, the Forward Dance Company can funciton as a reflection of our society. The dance company affiliated with Lofft Leipzig has previously sought out dialogues with locations that are inscribed with memories and collective expectations – for example as part of the opening of the German Pavilion at the 18th Venice Architecture Biennale or with the Monument to the Battle of Nations in Leipzig.
