RUNTHROUGH IV

A fascinating use of dance to explore concepts of movement and the body

»RUNthrough IV« is a choreographic remix, a blend of different movement concepts and physical vocabular- ies that are collected in the workshops held before each touring performance with movement "experts" who are non-dancers. As a result, every performance has its own slightly different character. This is a consequence of the company’s collaborative and process-oriented way of working, the artistic foundation on which this piece is also based.

From these consistently new, week-long encounters with people from different movement contexts – like the one that will now happen in Weimar – the company develops fresh perspectives on body and movement ideas that will provide a source of inspiration for ensuing new choreographic versions of »RUNthrough«.

Eight dancers and a live DJ translate the impulses they have collected and develop them into a movement language of their own in the choreographed work. As in their earlier pieces, the Bonn-based group led by the choreographer Rafaële Giovanola takes its inspiration for »RUNthrough« predominantly from bodily concepts unrelated to professional dance in its search for the “unconsidered” body. Established thinking about the body and movement is challenged, which repeatedly leads the ensemble to speculatively extend our ideas about the body, gender and identity, turning into some highly individual, bizarre and fascinating creatures on stage. After premiering new projects at Kunstfest in 2019 and 2020, Rafaele Giovanola now returns to Weimar with her latest success. At the end of last year, she was awarded the theatre prize “DER FAUST”, one of Germany’s leading awards for the performing arts.
