What is the sound of Thuringia? Syndikat Gefährliche Liebschaften, a group dedicated to culture outside of big cities, went to find out – by listening in at processions and parades in Thuringia, bratwurst parties, ski jumping comps and Easter fires. Sometimes it sounded like K-pop, sometimes like classical music, sometimes like Hardtekk or traditional folk songs. Across 10 evenings local musicians and choirs will be passing the conductor’s baton on the Theaterplatz in Weimar. Together with the Syndikat they have come up with suggestions for new sounds for Thuringia’s present and future and will be trying them out on the festival crowd and passersby. The other melodies and texts allow space for contradictions and inconsistencies as well as counter-narratives and dreams of a future Thuringia. Rehearsing together and sharing backstories and contexts from their explorations opens up a social and political space. The Kunstfest Pavilion will be turned into a bandstand and the Theaterplatz into a festival ground as the Syndikat and its accomplices and guests sing, hum, make a noise, listen and debate at their heart’s content.
Each evening will be broadcast on Radio Lotte.
