Solid chains on the skin. A blade on the ear, fingernails in contact with ceramics. Cold. A shiver. Silence.
The fragility of ceramics that can shatter into a hundred individual pieces and yet survive millennia even in their fragmented state. Chains that could fall at any touch.
Where do we look for security? What constricts us? What does it do to things, relationships, constructs when they break? What is the allure, the nostalgia, behind broken things? The longing for what will not return? And what do we want to break with?
Vivien Mercedes Jester explores this ambivalence, in the supposedly silent matter and in herself, and invites the visitor:inside to roam through her sound installation of over 100 chains made of ceramic.
