Since right-wing extremists took over the state government, the Goethe Gymnasium has found
itself in a difficult position. Rifts have appeared, not just among the staff, but the situation has
also driven a wedge between Ella and Tim, who have been a couple for thirty years. Why has Tim
of all people now been made headteacher? And what are their colleagues Fred and Paula up to?
Are they still manoeuvring or are they co-operating? Some keep their heads down while others
issue calls for resistance. The play is set in the school hall just before the holidays. Ella and Tim are preparing the end of term celebrations with Fred and Paula. Politicians from the new government are also expected. In a series of short scenes we see how the two couples are entangled with each other: in relationships, in their career ambitions, educationally, politically and in how they view the world. The fact that they are played by just two actors drives their game to an absurd dimension. Not only do they change sex, they also repeatedly advocate opinions that they were attacking a moment earlier. Here we watch the game of a cheating couple of whom we have to ask: are they still a couple? And if so, how many? This work commissioned by Kunstfest Weimar and Theater Fürth offers a reunion with two popular stars from Kunstfest in recent years: Judith Rosmair and Steve Karier. They are directed by the internationally sought after Berlin director Torsten Fischer.
