What does remembrance mean today? How does it relate to the present? How is remembrance collectively lived and experienced? And how do we deal with the coexistence of different stories, perspectives, and experiences?

This theme day brings together practitioners from the fields of education, academia, and the contemporary arts to explore these questions and to present approaches and challenges related to a pluralistic culture of remembrance.

Through a variety of formats, the day will address these themes and questions from different angles – artistic, analytical, and personal. Together, we will explore how remembrance can be not just a look back, but an active, communal, and present-day practice:

In their → workshop »Lieder als Erinnerung (Songs as Memories)« musicians Yael Gat and Alex Stolze explore Jewish songs as vehicles of memory and expressions of resistance. Nicole Schweiß and Igor Mitschnik, together with the participants of the→ workshop »Dimensionen pluraler Erinnerungskultur (Dimensions of Pluralistic Memory Culture)« reflect on the coexistence of different perspectives in memory work. In the → panel discussion, Jens-Christian Wagner and Noa K. Ha speak about the co-optation of commemoration and how memory can become the foundation of solidarity. The → film »Die Kunst, Viele zu bleiben (The Art of Staying Many)« offers a multifaceted insight into artists’ struggle against exclusion and polarization. Together, we’ll bring the day to a close with music by → Alex Stolze & Yael Gat.
